It’s been nearly three years since my last cruise. I thought about how relaxing it is to gently be rocked to sleep for seven consecutive nights. And who better to spend such a monumental occasion than with my best friend. Tamika and I set sail from Puerto Rico April 22nd on the Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas. But nothing is without a little drama, right?
I called Tamika two nights before we were set to leave. In the midst of discussing her hotel, we discovered that she’d booked her flight to Miami….the cruise was leaving from Puerto Rico. After her moderate to severe panic, and the fact that she has friends who work at the airlines, she was able to change her flight to Puerto Rico. Whew! Continue reading Cruising On My Birthday→
I am finally moved in and unpacked. Whew, I do not like moving. It’s exhausting. There are no more boxes to unpack and I couldn’t be happier. My place is exactly 1/2 the square footage of my house but my closet is ridiculously huge. No complaints though. I wish all closets were that big!
The guest room/Jaden’s room is ready! I think it turned out pretty good. Im in love with the concrete floors and exposed brick and ceilings. However, I’m not too fond of all the extracurricular activities I get to hear. *sigh* lol
A 5 minute commute to work is something I’ve never had. The days I go into the office will be a breeze in this Houston traffic. I’m curious if I’ll miss that downtime/unwind time that I’ve had for the last 8 years. We will see.
The herbs are in the window. I’ll see how the rosemary and cilantro will do. I planted lavender too. Even though it was only a few pots, playing with that dirt felt great! I was longing to go pull weeds and get the raised beds ready at the house in Vancouver but ran out of time. It would have been great therapy for me. But now I have my little potted plants plus one house plant from my dad’s funeral. My brother, Aaron, and his family managed to keep this plant alive for 16 years but it hasn’t grown. It’s really odd. Anyway, I took a piece and it has sat in water for the last year. I’ve finally given my little piece of the plant a home.
I’ve had an opportunity to eat out multiple times in the past 9 days. I wasn’t expecting to but I’ve been to four great restaurants: Pappas Seafood, Pappas Brothers Steakhouse, Pappadeaux’s, and a place called Grace’s. I’ll spare you the play by play. What I want you to know is I had a fried oyster salad that was out of this world! Yes, the lightly battered, tender, crispy oysters were on top of a bed of fresh spinach with bacon pieces and pine nuts and blue cheese tossed with a vinegarette. It was an unusual item on the Grace’s menu and I couldn’t pass it up. It’s a must try. I also had a slice of banana cheesecake from Pappas Seafood. There was banana cake embedded in the cheesecake. My goodness. No words. I’m looking forward to trying more Houston restaurants.
I’m not real sure why but I’m surprised by the friendliness of the people here in Houston and I’m pleased with the diverse population. I think I like Houston.
Well, I’m in a very familiar place: on a plane. I’m heading to San Juan to board a 7 day cruise with my bestie. We try to vacation together once a year and this time we’re getting together for my birthday. Forty is coming quickly! Two more years until that milestone. I’m planning a trip to Australia for that one.
Well folks, I’m on the plane to Houston, TX. Yes, I will become an official resident of TX today (4/12/17). Weird thought but I’ve already found some #sooner allies. I can’t wait until football season starts! #BOOMER
It’s been a very busy time making this move happen. I love logistics so planning the move was exciting. Putting my house on the market was the thing that made it seem so real. When the house sold in less than 2 weeks – I knew it was serious! I can’t go any further without recognizing my amazing realtor, Shelly Caswell with John L. Scott. Shelly was recommended to me by Shawn & David, my neighbors. She is incredibly knowledgable, professional, and on top of her game. I was confident through the entire process because of her expertise and experience. When it came down Continue reading …and the new journey begins→
I would have never imagined that one year into being back in the beautiful pacific NW I’d pack my bags and head to #Texas. Yes, #Houston that is. I’ve spent the last ten years building teams and helping members of the health care teams that I’ve been with find their niche in their careers. I’ve enjoyed every bit of the mentoring relationship that I’ve developed and the networks that I’ve built. Over time, I’ve also come to learn what it is that makes me most passionate about my career and my ability to influence change, behavior, patient care delivery and outcomes. Therefore, I’ve accepted a Division Director position in Texas doing work that I know I will love for years to come. I’m so excited about this opportunity and I never thought there would be much to excite me about Texas being the Sooner that I am. Continue reading My Next Adventure – Texas→
A direct flight to #Denver was my latest get-away. I’ve spent time in the Mile High City before at conferences. As a matter of fact, the first time I learned about the opportunity that took me to the Middle East was at a conference in Denver. And I had an amazing time with friends from college skiing one weekend a few years ago. So, even though it was cold and I flew into snow, I was ready to hang out in Denver.
I stayed at the Hotel Monaco Denver – @Kimpton Hotel. It was just as wonderful as I remembered it being. The family atmosphere, the great customer service, complimentary #winehour plus complimentary chair massages during wine hour – it was spectacular. I hung out at the bar the first night receiving an education on the fine art of making cocktails. Chad, the mixologist on duty, took excellent care of me and poured up a couple of cocktails that certainly hit the spot. Continue reading Weekend Trip to Snowy Denver→
December 30th, I woke up and decided that I didn’t particularly want to spend #NYE in WA. I browsed the websites to see how far my points could take me. I quickly learned that I could get to #Mexico for half the price I could get to anywhere in the US. However, I thought hopping on a plane to Mexico at the very last moment just seemed a little insane, even for me. So I quickly decided on #Dallas. Yes, Dallas…I’m not sure why I’ve been spending so much time in Texas lately but I must say it’s been nice getting reacquainted with the place. Continue reading Getting Uncomfortable in 2017→
