December 30th, I woke up and decided that I didn’t particularly want to spend #NYE in WA. I browsed the websites to see how far my points could take me. I quickly learned that I could get to #Mexico for half the price I could get to anywhere in the US. However, I thought hopping on a plane to Mexico at the very last moment just seemed a little insane, even for me. So I quickly decided on #Dallas. Yes, Dallas…I’m not sure why I’ve been spending so much time in Texas lately but I must say it’s been nice getting reacquainted with the place.
My sister agreed to meet me there for NYE so I booked a red eye and arrived bright and early the morning of the 31st. I reached out to a friend, Roz, to see what she may have planned for NYE. See, Roz has a fantastic new #cigar lounge in Ce
dar Hills, TX: The Smoking Jacket Cigar Lounge. It’s a very cool spot and she has an amazing selection of cigars. Her VIP section is right up my alley with comfy chairs and big screen televisions with the latest sports events showing. Roz was planning a masquerade party for NYE complete with food and a champagne toast. Roz was certainly surprised to see me walk through the door! We had a great night full of music, dancing, food, cigars and champagne! I will always appreciate a low key event with a mature crowd. I was glad I
didn’t stay home…
Prior to the NYE event, Tamona and I had dinner at Pappas Brother’s SteakHouse. The dining experience was phenomenal and the food was exquisite. Bryceson, our waiter, took excellent care of us. We had the crab cakes and lobster deviled eggs to start. I had lobster bisque and Tamona had a salad. She had the sea bass topped with lobster as her main course. Lord! It was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever tasted. I had the NY strip that was cooked to perfection. Dessert was a dark chocolate pecan tart in an oreo crust topped with whipped cream and a cream sauce. It was heavenly. There aren’t too many things that I enjoy more than a great meal, in a great atmosphere with great
service. Pappas Brother’s had it all!
That morning I went to the Old West Cafe in Grapevine. This little gem was amazing. I had the Philly Panhandler: A biscuit & gravy smothered with fried potatoes & 3 eggs scrambled with philly steak, bell pepper, onion & jalapeño topped with melted monterrey cheese. Of course I had to try a pancake. I went with the blueberry lemon pancake. Delicious!
Anyway, I’m not one to do New Year’s resolutions and what I’m about to say isn’t really a resolution. It’s more of a change in how I’ll live my life. I’ve been comfortable for a long time. Comfortable in my career, comfortable in my daily life, comfortable being me. I’m making a commitment that 2017 will be the start of getting uncomfortable. I know there’s so much more that I must do and that I have to offer. I also believe that out of discomfort comes growth. My first opportunity for such growth will come this Friday. I’ve agreed to speak in front of a crowd. Some may find this surprising that this makes me uncomfortable but it does. My most comfortable place is behind the scenes, helping others capture the spotlight, providing guidance and direction, facilitating small groups. Being in the spotlight is not what I enjoy! So I’ll let you know how this new way of living goes for me. I’m anticipating lots of discomfort and lots of growth!
Living life…and it’s good…and will be uncomfortable in 2017!
