Jazz in NYC

img_2726I love Jazz. I’m no jazz historian but I love the genre. One thing that I looked forward to during my NYC trip was to finally see @ChrisBotti at the @BlueNoteNYC . This year marks his 12th year doing a residency during the month of December at this particular jazz club. I’ve seen him at large concert halls performing with his band and the orchestra behind him. But the chance to see him in an intimate setting in NYC intrigued me. I was not disappointed. This was a concert that I will remember for some time to come. Not only is Chris an extremely talented musician, he’s a performer at heart. His band is also phenomenal. Even though his band has turned over since the last time I saw him, he has put together an amazing group of musicians. And…Ms. Sy Smith @Sybersoace is still with him. Her beauty, grace and voice exuberates the soul. I’m in love with the music, captured by the Live in Boston album, I’m a loyal fan. The night we were there, The Ms. Cicely Tyson was present celebrating her 92nd birthday. The next night, I’ve learned theimg_2685 one and only @OfficialSting was in house. That’s the one that has been elusive for me: Chris & Sting. I missed them in Dubai too. One day…Just saying, my experience at the Blue Note seeing Chris Botti was the highlight of my trip. Merry Christmas to me 🙂

After the concert, Jaden and I went to the Empire State Building. It was a great time to go – 10:00pm on a Monday night. Using our CityPass, we skipped what little line there was and made our way up to the 86th floor’s observation deck. Of course the views are insanely beautiful. I’ve been to the observation deck at the Burj Khalifa and even though it’s about 60 stories higher than the ESB, the views of NYC are much more captivating. It’s kind of a magical place. Yes, weird, I know. But I really appreciated the experience.

The first part of my day though, was spent exploring a couple of museums. I went to the Solomon Guggenheim, an art museum. The building itself is a work of art. However, I found very few interesting pieces inside the museum. The people

were really nice and friendly but I missed something with this one. What was funny for me though, is when Jaden and I went to the MoMA, he said, “I can’t wait to see a piece of art that’s so abstract that it’s just white.” The Guggenheim delivered!

I left there and headed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art – or the MET as they call it. This is a museum I am proud of as I tend to compare museums to those in other countries. The place is massive. You certainly need a good plan of attack to see the things you want to see. I also conquered the subway on this day! I only waited on the wrong platform once and at least I didn’t get on the train going the wrong direction!

Hanging out at a @Kimpton hotel is just as much a part of my vacation as everything else that I do. It’s been a pleasure spending each evening enjoying wine hour in the comfort of the hotel lobby. Surprisingly, I’ve only had wine once. I’ve been favoring the spiced chai latte. It’s perfect for the season. I also went ahead a tried the sweet potato donuts on the PRINT menu. Delicious. That’s all I can say!

This trip is nearly over and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to visit NYC. I’m already making plans to return. I think I’ll be back next December to see @ChrisBotti again.

Living life….
