You must know that I’ve been up to something. I can’t sit still for too long. So let me tell you…
I went to Dallas. Yes, hot Dallas but I had a great time. I stayed @Kimpton hotel, the Hotel Lumen. It’s close to SMU in a great neighborhood with beautiful homes and nice cars. It’s close to nice shopping as well…um nice window shopping rather. The hotel held true to Kimpton’s modern decor. The clean lines and furniture were nice and the pool area was perfect with cabanas to shade you from the Texas heat. The hotel rooms reminded me of converted dorm rooms. The suite I stayed in was one bedroom with a living area and a kitchenette. It was cool. And in typical @Kimpton fashion, I was met with a bottle of wine, seasonal fruit and a hand written welcome card. I enjoyed wine hour and took time to dine in their restaurant The Front Room. The food wasn’t too bad. They could have certainly improved on the shrimp & grits but the lamb and BBQ shrimp were excellent. I also had a cocktail with cilantro…it was interesting. I love to partake in Kimpton’s wine hours and happy hours. It’s all part of the @Kimpton experience. I can’t say enough about the staff. Their customer service was on point like always!
The highlight of my trip was a visit to a cigar lounge. Not just any cigar lounge but one that was recently opened by a phenomenal woman, Roz. It’s called The Smoking Jacket Cigar Lounge in Cedar Hills. Her memberships are well worth the money and she has an excellent selection of cigars. I was happy to see her selection because I’ve been disappointed in the cigar selection since I’ve been back in to the US. So if you’re in the area and you smoke cigars, check out her place.
Okay…I can’t lie. I stopped and had a chicken wing, okra and a biscuit from Church’s Chicken. Man it was so good! Sometimes you just don’t realize how much you miss something until you’ve had it again! I topped things off with a scoop of black walnut ice cream from Braum’s; it’s been at least 8 years since I’ve had black walnut ice cream! So as much as I don’t like going to the midwest, I certainly do miss some of the food.
I’ve decided that in order to keep my sanity and my need to travel, I’m going to hop on a plane regularly. My only rule is a direct flight. Oh, the possibilities. Long weekends will look different for me in the US (can’t just go to Paris, London, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bahrain…sad but I’m okay) but I’m sure I’ll make it fun!
The other thing I’ve been up to is looking into something I’ve wanted to do for more than 15 years…I’ve wanted a bike for a long time. Not a bicycle, but a motor cycle. Yes, I know – you don’t have to tell me how dangerous it is. Yes, I’m a nurse. Yes, I work and have worked at a trauma hospital. But I still want one. Between my friend (who is also a nurse, has a motorcycle, and races cars) and my brother, I’ve been moving toward getting a bike. I at least have my riding gear and now I’m just looking for a bike. I’m so excited. It’s something that totally fits my personality and I can see my self riding on the back roads in WA & OR. I know it’ll be peaceful…just saying.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to an addition to the house. My sister is finally moving to the Pacific NW! I’m so excited for her to start over here and I know she’ll love it. I’m sure you’ll hear some stories coming up as she gets acclimated to this area.
Living life & it’s good.
